Isshobin Month – You Started This Global Movement, Now “Go Big & Go Home”

And we are back! This month represents the 4th “Isshobin” month across the globe, and what does that mean to you? In a word, it means 20% off any 1.8L bottle of sake in the store. That is a value like no other in the sake world because the bottle itself is a tremendous value. Within every 1.8L bottle is 60 fluid ounces of gorgeous sake that, in most cases, improves when opened and oxidized. Yup, sometimes a sake will relax and feel more balanced after being opened for a few days, which means you don’t have to finish it in one sitting. And that is where the value comes in, as you are paying for two 720ml (24oz) bottles plus an extra 12 ounces, for a total of 60 ounces of liquid love at a far better price point. Then toss in a 20% discount, and we are talking about Isshobin Month.
Typically, “big bottles” and “magnums” were used for restaurants that do sake by the pour, but the original intent was for home use (True Sake team member Akemi’s grandfather, Kiyoshi, kept his bottle under the kitchen sink, so we are dedicating this Issho Month to her grandfather!). That said, we are trying to get everybody involved in this movement, and you can do your part by asking your favorite restaurant that features 1.8L bottles if they are participating in “Isshobin Month” (every November). Last month, I mentioned 5 brews that work well in this large format, and if you call the store or pop by, the team would love to help you pick out several Issho that are good for your house, your holidays, your company parties, your football Sundays, your gift-giving, your fascination, and of course, your total enjoyment. And remember, nothing looks cooler than bringing a big bottle to a party or gifting it to your family and friends. HAPPY ISSHOBIN MONTH!
